Celebrate Romance at South Bali’s Hidden Beaches.

Bali, known as the Island of the Gods, is a tropical paradise that attracts millions of tourists every year, drawn by its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. While many flock to popular beaches like Kuta and Seminyak, there are a host of hidden gems that promise privacy and romance for couples eager to escape the crowds. Here are our favourite secret beaches that couples should explore!

Nyang Nyang Beach

Tucked away on Bali’s southern coast, Nyang Nyang Beach is a secluded paradise perfect for couples seeking a tranquil escape. Located beside the Uluwatu temple, like many of Uluwatu’s best beaches, it’s a serious climb to reach it. Some 600 steps take you through lush vegetation to a beautiful white sand cove with turquoise water. Pack some drinks and snacks and enjoy a romantic picnic amidst the dramatic cliffs surrounding the beach. The path is steep but the journey is well worth it. This hidden beach is often deserted, giving couples the perfect backdrop for intimate moments.

Green Bowl Beach

Located on the Bukit Peninsula, Green Bowl Beach in Ungasan is a hidden treasure that requires a bit of effort to reach. Couples must navigate a steep set of 300+ stairs carved into the side of the cliff to reach the beach. Going down isn’t bad, coming back up can take 20 minutes or so. The beach is known for its beautiful water, white sand, charming caves and stunning surf, making it an ideal spot for beachcombing and exploring. One feature of Green Bowl Beach is the caves, rock pools and temples. There are no warungs on the beach but you can stock up on drinks and snacks in the parking lot before you descend. Make sure to catch the stunning sunset from the top before heading home. You might even spot some local wildlife, such as monkeys. The natural beauty and seclusion here create an intimate setting for couples.

Gunung Payung Beach

Gunung Payung Beach is a stunning, lesser-known beach where you can enjoy soft sand and beautiful blue waters. Nestled between cliffs and lush scenery, it feels like a hidden oasis. Reached by a steep set of stairs (yes, more steps), the effort is rewarded with great views and a serene atmosphere. The picturesque surroundings make this beach an ideal spot for couples who want to relax, sunbathe, and enjoy the waves.

Balangan Beach

For couples who enjoy a bit of adventure, Balangan Beach is a fantastic option. This beach is well-loved by surfers, but it still maintains a peaceful atmosphere, especially on weekdays. With stunning views and sensational sunsets, Balangan Beach is perfect for romantic strolls along the shoreline. You’ll also find a few local warungs (small eateries) where you can enjoy freshly caught seafood and a cool drink.

Suluban Beach

A beautiful crescent of white sand reached through a craggy limestone cave, Suluban is one of the closest beaches to Uluwatu and is a favourite with surfers who want to access the big waves. In low tide it is a beautiful swimming beach but less experienced swimmers will want to stay close to the shore. As with many Uluwatu beaches, there are stairs to access the beach, so be prepared. A short walk will lead you to a small slice of sand known to locals as Hidden Beach. Here you’ll find spectacular views and rock pools. At the top, you’ll find a local restaurant with great views and fabulous sunsets.

Padang Padang Beach (off-peak hours)

If you’re looking for a lively beach with fewer crowds, visit Padang Padang Beach early in the morning or later in the afternoon. It’s famous for its stunning rock formations and azure waters, ideal for a mini adventure and it’s an easy walk through a rock cave to access the beach. Couples can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, or exploring the area, and if you’re willing to brave a few steps down narrow paths, beautiful quiet spots await you just beyond the busier areas. Local vendors offer drinks and can be a nuisance so find a quiet spot off the main beach to enjoy the serenity and one of Uluwatu’s most beautiful beaches.

Suryodaya Beach

Geger Beach in Nusa Dua is a favourite for local families due to its white sand and protected water but venture a little further around the coastline and you’ll discover a beach that very few visit. Suryodaya Beach is a little slice of heaven that very few visit, so you may even have the beach to yourself. To reach this little beach you can walk from Geger Beach or take the road to Pura Bias Tugel, one of Bali’s sacred sites, and from there it’s a short walk. There’s very little in the way of refreshments here so stop on the way and stock up on snacks and drinks and remember to apply your sunscreen as there are no lounges or umbrellas, just nature and you.
